The city of Ashdod boasts some of Israel’s most beautiful beaches; the new zoning plan of the marina area attempts to leverage that by outlining a colossal waterfront plaza, complete with a lake for sailing and encompassed by a circular arcade of shops and hotels. The zoning plan made by our firm gives the hotel an additional 40% rights to meet the standards of world-class hotel chains. The project is situated on the north-westernmost plot, a mere few steps from the water, right between the marina docks and a planned new section of the city’s long beachfront promenade. The 225-room (all with sea view) 5-star hotel, packed into a 7-storey slab perpendicular to the beachline, sits atop a horizontal plinth with double-height shops and restaurants, which in turn envelops a vast convention center with meeting rooms and 4 conference halls.

Each floor of the hotel contains 28 luxurious 30-meter rooms, as well as a corner room and a 53-meter suite – both with particularly large balconies. The commercial level facing the promenade circling the lake was designed with extra care, with a deep seating balcony to provide a place for leisurely pastime and shade for the plaza level. Each of the project’s components – the hotel, the conference halls and the meeting rooms – is at the same time linked to the other components and stands on its own, accessible from separate entrances. All these different entrances face a drop-off entry plaza on the northeastern corner that faces the promenade.

The vast roof of the low structure, overlooking the Mediterranean just a few meters away, contains the hotel’s swimming pool, deck area, bar and restaurant. A long patio adds some light and a spark of fun the conference foyer in the center of the deep ground floor plan.

The style of the hotel complex is a tense balance between the orthogonal and the circular. The elevator shaft, on one side of the hotel bulk, has a concave space both on the plan and on the cross-section. Its shape is echoed by the upper roof above the hotel’s technical level and by the concave roof of the commercial structure, whose rounded façade follows the plaza line. With a little imagination, these elements allude to the white sails of the yachts and boats anchored in the marina nearby.
